Project title: “The Evolution of Vimalakirti image in ancient China”


Xinyuan Li (Minzu University) was a visiting student in the UBC Asian Studies for one year from October 2017 to November 2018 before returning to doctoral studies at Minzu University of China. She made measurable progress with her dissertation, with the help of substantial Chinese literature documents in UBC’s Asian library. She mainly focuses on the study of Buddhist belief and the research based on Vimalakirti Sutra especially in Wei-Jin period. To date, she has published two books co-authored with accomplished scholars: The Evolution of Various Buddhist Sects in Mount Zhongnan Region (Shanxi People’s Publishing House, Jan. 2015), and The School of Tantra and its Birthplaces (Xidian University Press, Oct. 2016). She has also published several papers, including “The study on the Birthplaces of Various Buddhist Sects”, (Fa Yin, vol. 4, pp. 42-46, 2017), and “The Summarization of the Speeches and Papers Delivered on the Monk Xuan Zang and the Silk Road Symposium”, (Religious Studies).
