CAMLab (Chinese Art Media Lab) is a new organization housed within Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Our mission statement: We are entering an era in which the boundary between the virtual and the real is becoming blurred. Technological innovations—from augmented reality to artificial intelligence—have revolutionized the nature of perception, transporting us to new realms of the imagination. Bringing together humanistic inquiry with cutting-edge technology and design, CAMLab explores innovative, interdisciplinary ways of showcasing Chinese art and culture through immersive installations, exhibitions, films, digital publications, and other multimedia forms.
CAMLab is in the process of acquiring an expansive new headquarters, exhibition space, and fabrication lab for the research and development of its multimedia initiatives. In addition, the lab is also developing a course entitled “Permanent/impermanent: Why Buddhists Build Monuments”.
